Pay, care and housing – problems for all generations; here’s Haldane on building houses.

Is Andy Haldane speaking here for Government? I hope he is. He’;s rumoured to be  influential in No 11 Downing Street and the Chancellor has a big job sorting out a  strategy to tackle housing. Care and our wage in retirement are priorities but too little has been done for those needing housing. It’s a problem for every generation , including the wrinklies!

My friends Con Keating and Thomas Aubrey have published articles on how Government can finance the building of new housing and suggested that Government will need to develop its thinking on this matter –

Why the government’s New Towns strategy is likely to fail.

Reading Andy Haldane’s article I suspect he has similar thinking to Con and Thomas; much of what he writes is in in their vein. We cannot go on without getting a strategy for financing the building of new housing any more than we can’t go on without a strategy to sort the financing of social care and those in and facing retirement.

Here is Haldane’s article that has appeared in this morning’s Financial Times – see what you think?
