The environment in which pension scheme trustees operate has never been more complex and there is no doubt that the role of the pension scheme trustee is under more scrutiny than ever before.
Legislation now requires trustees to have the appropriate skills and knowledge to undertake
their role. In particular, trustees are now required to have knowledge and understanding of:
· the law relating to pensions and trusts
· the principles relating to the funding of schemes
· the principles relating to investment, and
· to have a working knowledge of the key scheme documents.
Trustees therefore need to understand a broad range of legal, financial and investment
issues. First Actuarial has developed a series of one day training courses designed to meet
“Introduction to Trusteeship” covers the law relating to pensions and
trusts and provides a brief introduction to funding and investment. This course is particularly
suited to newly-appointed trustees but can also act as a useful refresher for existing
trustees who wish to update and develop their knowledge.
The course covers the following areas:
· Background to pension provision
· Role of the trustee
· Role of advisers
· Role of the Pensions Regulator
· An overview of pensions legislation
The course is conducted in an informal manner to promote discussion and an exchange of
ideas. In our experience this approach works well as trustees benefit from discussing
issues faced by trustees of other schemes.
In addition the speakers have been chosen for their ability to communicate complex issues
in a straightforward and understandable manner.
These courses are run at regular intervals. The next course will take place in central
London on Thursday 7 October 2010 For further information please call Alan Smith on

The cost per person is £300 plus VAT.
