Torsten Bell and Alexandra Miles; Social Market Foundation #Labour

Torsten Bell – Pension Minister

Detail is scant but news is that Torsten spoke to a group at Labour Conference on Sunday , a group congregated to talk about pensions and including on a friend of this blog – Alexandra Miles. A little news has followed on social media since first publication

Alexandra was on the platform and dropped me a line last night

It went well, pushed connecting pension change to bigger picture. Looking forward to continuing to champion and connect interested folk with huge expertise from across our industry and beyond. We’ll crack it together!

I don’t mind having Alexandra sharing her view of how pensions can work. If you aren’t familiar, then she is open to conversation, I speak with her on Linked in , you can find her here.

She describes herself as involved in DC pensions and representing Legal and General Investment Management and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

I’m open to her saying she champions my views and a proper view of DC pensions from the pension industry. I’m very glad she was asked to speak with Bell and that she is taking on the role of “champion”!

You can read and listen to more from Alexandra on this blog. I got rather carried away recently with a monster but go and plunder from this link.  It talks about what people do and “could” do and if we are going to have people speaking for us, may they be young and bright and open to other people’s ideas – three things I’d use to promote Alexandra.

It won’t surprise that she was recommended to me by Andrew Young, 13 years older than me but with an eye to pensions regenerating itself through another generation, Alexandra

Here she is on Linked in – promoting what she has to offer

Knowledge is potential; application is power. Let’s connect to drive finance innovation and share data-driven insights.

🚀 Early Dreams: Aspired to be a fast jet pilot, studying aerospace engineering at university. My hopes of flying were dashed on discovery that my arms were 2.5cm too short…

💼 Pensions Odyssey: Transitioned to a career in pensions. I trained as an Actuary at WTW before joining Legal and General Investment Management, originally in the LDI team, one of my first jobs was creating a liability benchmarking tool for the fund managers.

❤️ Passion: Discovered professional fulfilment and a new career direction with an internal move from DB to DC, joining a team that manages one of the main default investment strategies for L&G’s DC customers. Besides the day job I’m energized by initiating innovative solutions and driving new ideas forward, keeping in mind the bigger picture and potential commercial opportunities. I co-chair an industry-wide Data and Research Pension Equity group, as well as founding and now chairing the Institute of Actuaries’ Pensions Gap working party.

🏆 Success: I recently won a Highly Commended award at the Professional Pensions 2023 Women in Pensions Awards for my work on pension equity.

🔍 Research: I read a lot and try to make sure that I’m reading as much as possible from a plethora of experts from far and wide.

🌐 Bringing people together: Committed to leveraging networks, solving shared problems, and reimagining pension policies for an aging population.

💼 Wealth of Experience: Over 18 years in the Financial Services industry, Consultancy and Asset Management, Liabilities and Assets, Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension schemes.

🤝 Collaboration: Let’s connect, collaborate, and build a force for positive change together!
