For some people, woke is a word about awareness, fairness, and paying attention to injustice. For others, it sounds political, sarcastic, and maybe a little overused.

This morning I got a mailing from Gov.uk on the progress of our Financial Inclusion Committee, I didn’t know we had one but I quickly learned who was on it and I also learned what “financial inclusion” means to those in our Government’s Treasury.

How many of these do you know? Rather a lot if you are me because these are the great and good. Seven of eighteen have been decorated and the remainder look well on the way to getting theirs.

Here’s what the financial inclusion are tasked to do

A third of our lives living in England is spent over 60 but financial inclusion doesn’t involve “growing old” in its terms and reference or its objectives.

The meetings are chaired by a different minister each time , presumable this was not purposeful at outset when the Labour Government brought this in but it doesn’t seem to help continuity.

I have to admit to being none the wiser of just what has happened because of this committee sitting down together once every 6 months since the summer of 2024 and if Reform wants to hold up an example of “woke” for voters to gawp at, it would do worse than bring up this Government initiative.
