Benstead, CDC’s veteran designer at 10.30am today

Derek Benstead, a true CDC expert

If you are interested in CDC and excited by news that our pension minister is endorsing TLT’s work in this year then come to Pension PlayPen’s coffee morning this morning at 10.30 am. It’s a free event and we want to attract people who may be considering CDC from both a commercial and fiduciary perspective.

There is much to talk about.

Is CDC the decumulation service that DC pensions need to pay pensions?

Is CDC practical as a decumulator or does it need to be a whole of life pension system that covers accumulation and decumulation?

Should it follow Royal Mail and work on an accrual basis (effectively unguaranteed career average DB)?

Should it allow savers to see the pension they are buying as they , employers and HMRC contribute to their pension?

I have known and worked with Derek Benstead for some time and am working with him again on getting a similar approach into place in the “shared ambition” space, the type of thing that Nest are interested in having taken advice.

Paul Todd has referred to “conditional indexation” paid on top of a certain pension as a form of CDC. USS are looking at the same idea so that DB pensions can be accelerated by market dependent increases to a lower core.

These very helpful discussions are now going on, not just in First Actuarial where Derek has been leading for many years, but in other consultancies, with large employers and with multi-employer pension schemes like the Church of England’s.

So come along on Tuesday and be a part of a debate with real devotees. The advert below takes us into the nitty-gritty which we need to understand and be comfortable with.
