At 58, Damian’s looking for a proper job again. Strawberries are still nice in September

I have fallen in love with Damian Stancombe’s weekly updates on his progress into retirement , his time down under, his joining a start-up and his leaving it. Now, at the tender age of 58 , Damian discovers that age is not a number and that he has a job to do. This video is an “I’m for hire” advert for Damian.

Being six years older than Damian , I can advise him that unless he loses his health, he has a lot to give employers who want a strategist to think and talk as Damian does about the business of getting older. He can talk with me if he likes.

smaller but more tasty!

Most people as they get older, like things to get simpler and easier. It is September, I have just eaten the last of this year’s strawberries, small and intense of taste.

There is something about autumn fruit that is attractive, Damian might dwell on that.

I used to believe , as you still do, of retirement as something to use to put distance from working but I suspect that you are like me and many others , finding it hard to walk away. Instead you walk over the dunes of Southport and talk into your phone, breathing the dark mutterings of someone who finds that 58 is just a number.

  1. Wendy Gallagher says:

I so agree with you, my husband retired at 68 hated it and is back at work and turns a young 70 in November- I’m quickly heading to 69 still working and loving it – I work with a lot of young people who like my experience. It can be exhausting sometimes with grandchildren and an aged mother but if you don’t like shopping and doing lunch keep on working !!!

It makes my day to have your comments!
