A solution for the gender pension gap from LCP

There is an interesting idea floated by Steve Webb off the back of last week’s excellent article of the impact of getting divorced when close , at or beyond retirement

The idea is simple and plays nicely to the worry that women earn less than men and get less tax relief when saving for retirement.

But there is a problem with sorting out “rich people”s tax problems by redistribution  between husband and wife which is spotted by blog regular – Alan Chaplin.

Lower tax on earnings, higher tax relief on saving, it’s one way for HMRC to resolve the gender pay gap for the better off.  I’m not sure it would be on the Commission’s short list but for all the complaints it does address the problem with the solution.
