It’s a lovely day here in London . As I ran past the Covid testing tent in the square of the City’s Guildhall, there was no queue. This is what the City used to be like on Sunday, except it was Friday. Just about every Friday is a Sunday in the City of London.
We have lived through a lot in the past six weeks and it feels like we are doing just a little better.
There are snowdrops and little daffodils in Postman’s Park and as I ran across the Barbican highwalk, a young lady wearing no mask , smiled at me. It felt like winning.
I got home and saw the ONS numbers were out, the Covid Actuaries had already read the numbers, here’s their analysis, have a good weekend
The latest @ONS infection survey is out, and continues to show a steady decline in England. There’s a significant fall in N Ireland, but Scotland and Wales are more steady.
In England the estimate is 1.55% (last week – 1.87%) of the community population, around 847k people.

Regionally there are marked falls in London and the NE, smaller falls in the SE/SW/NW, and the other areas appear flat.
London is still highest, but less of an outlier now.

The now familiar graphs showing the impact of the new variant. Note the pale blue line is where the level of virus was too low to enable the strain to be determined.
It’s good to see the new variant falling in England and NI given its known increased transmissibility.

This randomly sampled community survey (ie not Care Homes etc) has taken 489k samples (in England) in the last 6 weeks, with 9,092 positive results.
The commentary notes other surveillance, such as Zoe, REACT and PHE – all these help towards getting a better picture.
