A case study in the best (and worst) of Linkedin.

I copy directly from LinkedIn a thread of comments which sums up for me both the right and the wrong behaviours to be found on its discussion boards.

Are IFAs missing the point on GPP advice? http://wp.me/ppXQz-h0

IFAs have an opportunity to deliver a lot of value to those with mature DC pots and really should forget about selling people into GPPS.. well that’s my opinion..what’s yours?

    Henry,

IFAs who understand GPPs, the difference between DB and DC, the impact of Pensions Reform, and the consequences of RDR, are probably already delivering a lot of value in this space.

Unfortunately, I think that IFAs who understand GPPs, the difference between DB and DC, the impact of Pensions Reform, and the consequences of RDR, are VERY thin on the ground!

That’s very well put- your issue is about capacity… Do you think that IFAs who have been rewarded by selling GPPs can move into the advisory space and dedicate their efforts profitably to the DC (and DB) endgame?

Someone has to move into the space! – there has to be a latent demand from employers needing advice on how to unwind their DB liabilities, and to pick their way through the pensions reform maze; capability and credibility will be an issue, but work will migrate to the capable…

If anyone needs any help in this area, our Employee Benefits specialists are more than on top of all the issues raised here (and several more that are not!).

Very glad to hear that Clive. It would be good to hear the solutions you put forward and learn from you on the issues which this thread has not covered.

Don’t ask me! I’m an Eldely Client specilist, so my Clients have long since crystallised all their benefits. As I said, I’m happy to introduce anyone in need of help to our Employee Benefits specialists. We are used to working with other IFAs in areas for which they do not have the requisite skills.
