We need OUR money to find ways into OUR stock market and for OUR private companies to find a way to benefit themselves and us. Companies that are prospering should be incentivised to quote on the London Stock Exchanges and companies that do not want to be quoted can find collective ways of getting finance collectively as they have done for many decades.
My wish for the budget is to see investment trust/companies competing with LTAFs as a way for smaller funds and more sophisticated individuals to get access to British companies which can’t get individual quotes on our stock market.
It’s a way for smaller private companies to get funding and for their to be a public market for their shares without them being quoted. This seems to me an answer to small private company’s call to scale up and a reasonable alternative to what is currently available.
There is of course benefit for larger quoted companies to return to Britain’s stock markets and for our larger private companies to become more accessible by seeking their own UK listing.
Here is the proposal.
There are politicians who have worked towards this, Ros Altmann and Sharon Bowles being the two I know , I know they are influential in the upper house. I hope that they can have influence in the Treasury where decisions about the budget have been taken.
As the AIC call stresses, this is not a tax reform that will happen overnight but if there is a pathway to change then the good sense of markets that want to make the Mansion House Accord happen, will take hold. Momentum has to start with a kick to get the ball rolling, that kick could be tomorrow (Wednesday 28th October 2026).
Let’s hope.
