I’m at a high falutin’ DC conference today and it’s easy to forget that the simple things are the most important. I’ve been through the hell of finding my pension and putting them in one pot.
The facts
Experts estimate there are around 3.3 million lost pension pots in the UK, with the highest average among the 55-75 age group at £13,620 each.
Since 2018, the number of lost pots has jumped by 75%, showing the problem is growing fast. Why do so many pensions get lost?
Job changes and moving house are the main reasons. The average person will change jobs eleven times and move home eight times in their lifetime, so it’s no surprise that paperwork and provider details are easily misplaced.
Tracing yourself and encouraging your friends and family to track down these savings could ease future financial strain and allow them more choice in how and when they retire.
This year, National Pension Tracing Day takes place on Sunday 4th October, when the clocks go back. These folk are encouraging people to use the extra hour to join the
#GreatPensionTreasureHunt.
You don’t need to be a financial expert to start the process. The National Pension Tracing Day website provides a step-by-step guide and free tools that anyone can use.
