Coffee Morning – Shared Ambition DB Schemes – Is now the time to re-open? Should employers relaunch in 2025
You are cordially invited to attend our next online event in which Peter Cameron-Bown will be presenting on
Shared Ambition DB Schemes and their effectiveness in our “modern world”.
Shared ambition provides employees with a pension promise of a predictable income in retirement that is likely to prove considerably larger than that provided with the same level of contributions paid into a DC arrangement subject to a level of guarantee that exceeds PPF level benefits. The Employer sponsor can fund the scheme on a stable long term basis that reflects the pooling of risk, anticipated as well as achieved investment returns, while the flow of new contributions into the Scheme addresses short term cash flow liquidity issues.
With its inherent flexibility and entirely focusing on the long term. the model has also proved remarkably resilient through the 2008 financial crisis, Covid, periods of negative real gilt yields, the LDI crisis, and possibly capacity to withstand a “Trump Slump”.
Using his nearly 25 years of experience with shared ambition, Pensions Oldie Peter will suggest that re-opening accrual on a shared ambition basis may be the most attractive end game option for employers with closed DB schemes.
Peter is a Director of ACFV Ltd, Chair of the UKAS Pension Trustee Ltd and is a member of the Trustee Sustainability Working Group (TSWG)
