Nick Lowe, Brentford and Pension Bees!

Nick Lowe lives in Brentford.

I lived in Brentford for a time and I liked it. My Dad’s Dad was Methodist Minister for the Hounslow circuit and he lived in Brentford.

My son and I went to see Nick Lowe play the London Palladium with his band Los Straitjackets. We had to forsake an evening with Tony Filbin watching Yeovil draw 0-0 away to Sutton to do so.

As a teenager I saw Lowe play alongside luminaries such as Elvis Costello and Larry (I’m a Police Car) Wallace. As a young adult I saw him sing with Johnny Cash at the Royal Albert Hall (he married Cash’s step-daughter) and last night I saw a sprightly 75 year old belt out a two hour set that included all but the mighty Cash songs “Without Love” and “The Beast in Me”.

On Saturday I am going to watch Brentford against West Ham at Brentford’s new stadium. I am getting a ticket from Pension Bee – (thanks) and I am proud as punch

When I lived in Brentford, I lived next door to the old ground and when Yeovil Town got to Wembley for the League One play-offs , our opponents were Brentford.

A glover living in Brentford (the old ground in the distance)

Yeovil won and Brentford lost. Now Brentford are four divisions above Yeovil. But my Dad supported Brentford till the day he died even though he was born in West Ham! I notice some ham in the photo so maybe that was percipient of me ten years ago!

Now all I have to do is to persuade my friends at Pension Bee to start paying pensions to their happy customers and the Circle will be unbroken.

The Bees – founded a few years ago.
