While stopping short of creating a conspiracy theory, their work exposes a major discrepancy between the TPR/PPF methodology in “counting the cost” of the LDI blow-up and the work of the Office of National Statistics.

Their work and the discrepancy has been picked up by the Work and Pensions Committee and by the House of Lords Regulatory committee.

Normally this would be dry stuff, but this is a Pension PlayPen coffee morning so look forward to some important interventions from our lively audience of experts – and from me!

This is a burning platform for TPR, this month they are finally expected to publish their DB funding code , which will determine the long term future of the 5,000 remaining corporate DB schemes in the UK. Will they run-on or buy-out, will they invest in long-term productive capital or match liabilities to corporate bonds? Will the covenant squad win out or will innovation come to the market? Will TPR oversee the quietest graveyard or be part of Britain’s economic regeneration.

There is no better forum to have this debate than this morning’s 10.30 session. “Be there or be square” – as Jake Riviera used to say.
