It is a pleasure to bring people’s attention to the good that is around us. Robert Gardner has been influential on me since 2008 and though much younger than me has been my senior in the maturity of his thinking and business planning. Toby Nangle has swum into my imagination quite recently – indeed since the Covid calamity.

Like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, Gardner may be known for different periods of his career. I knew him best when he started Redington and Mallowstreet (not mentioned in this interview).

Many wealth managers will know him for reinventing the way that St James Place approached Wealth Management. In a very short time SJP changed from a fund picker to a solution provider building strategies to solve client problems (including retirement income about which SJP are now pretty expert).

Nowadays, Robert Gardner is known for Rebalance Earth and another generation has picked up on his work – my son I think relates more in business terms to Robert than me!

It is a great art to be the interviewer and allow the interviewed to be heard in a way that makes sense to the people who read, watch or listen. Nangle succeeds
