Lamine Yamal restores our faith in the game

If this Euro football tournament is remembered for one thing it will be the moment of genius that levelled Spain against France

Lamine Yamal seems so totally unaffected by his new found fame . Only Saka can rival him as an example of unbridled joy in playing the game.

England and the Netherlands are going to have to go some to win hearts and minds tonight.  I hope that the most entertaining team wins and if England don’t follow Saka’s lead and continue to play desultory pass back stuff – and lose – then they will head home in shame. The Netherlands have – to a lesser extent – the same problem ( a paralysis of fear).

France are out, having never exploited their talents and played a boring tournament. The BBC pundits who seemed to endorse their dour defensive approach have some explaining to do.

As for Spain, they are the team of the tournament and by such a distance that I doubt even the most die-hard England fan, does not look forward to watching them – and especially Williams and Yamal- in the final.

Did Messi know?
