Playpen 15,000 members and countless memories

The AgeWage and  Pension PlayPen linked in group passed 15,000 members this week making it Europe’s largest dedicated pension group – and its best.

Dedicated to restoring confidence in pensions, the group is now a robust posting site for bloggers, event organisers and a wide variety of people who want to air their views.

Playpen

AgeWage

Founded in 2007 by Marianne Elliott and myself in a pub near Worcester, the group was set up to allow pension people to play at their own expense. Over the years it has organised racing trips to Cheltenham, boat trips to Henley and theatre trips to watch resident playwright Tony Earnshaw’s various productions.

The Pension PlayPen has a golf society

Classical action from the Play Pen’s most stylish accountant

It has its own pop group – the Silence of the Lambs

It has its own racehorses which run in the famous AgeWage and Pension Playpen colours

The group spawned a website http://www.pensionplaypen.com which was set up to help employers choose a workplace pension – something that may go out of fashion over time as pot for life takes over the employer’s responsibility to choose a pension.

When auto-enrolment staging came to an end, the site was repurposed by Steve Goddard to provide a “mallow street for the masses” forum allowing anyone and everyone to attending coffee morning and other online events to discuss issues of the day. This took on the function of the Pension PlayPen lunches that took place in the Counting House pub from 2009 to 2018.

Pension PlayPen Tuesday 28 November – You are cordially invited to attend our next event.

We are delighted that Victor Haghani will be presenting his thoughts on a number of topics including:-

🔵 What would you need to believe about asset markets in order to conclude that a static asset allocation makes the most sense?
🟣 What was the Merton-Samuelson 1969 breakthrough?
🔵 What is the Merton Share? What are the implications for assets allocation?
What does history show us?
🟣 Where are the missing billionaires?
The UK is at least 10 years behind the US in terms of take up of DC pensions – is there anything to be learned from the US?
🔵Bonds have recently been a problem for many and particularly for Charities, TDF’s and Lifestyle funds. Is there a better way to de-risk?

Victor Haghani started his career in 1984 at Salomon Brothers, where he became a Managing Director in the bond arbitrage group. In 1993 Victor was a co-founding partner of Long-Term Capital Management then Victor founded Elm Wealth in 2011 to help clients, including his own family, sustainably manage and preserve their wealth. In his TEDx talk, Where Are All the Billionaires and Why Should We Care? Victor shares his unique perspective on active versus passive investing. He has been a prolific contributor to the academic and practitioner finance literature, and is a co-author of The Missing Billionaires: A Guide to Better Financial Decisions, just published by Wiley.
