Coffee Morning – Tom McPhail – Could Pot for life work?
Tuesday 26 September at 10.30am
At our next event, industry guru and Pension Playpen “All Star” Tom McPhail (Lang cat) will be discussing recent developments in the “pot for life” idea.
As part of the solution to the small pots problem, the DWP is interested in Pot for Life. This has worked well in Australia and could lead to Auto-enrolment 2.0. Tom’s presentation will look at what it is, how it could work and some of the challenges that would need to be dealt with.
Tom may also touch on the recent good news regarding new AE criteria…good for young savers and providers?
Tom has worked in financial services since 1986 (with a brief foray into electric bikes in 2020). For 18 years he was head of policy and lead pensions spokesman for the investment platform Hargreaves Lansdown.
During this time, he was a frequent contributor to media and policy discussions and analysis of pensions. In 2021 Tom conducted an external review of the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) on behalf of the DWP. He now works for the Edinburgh based consultancy the lang cat, providing financial services firms with strategic advice on policy issues and PR. In 2022 Tom authored an award-winning report on the Equity Release sector, titled House Rules.
