Accord to Facebook , I won something 8 years ago. I have no ideas what I won or where this trophy is. OK some bits of my brain are lost when it haemorrhaged but my flat in London is full of awards I or my companies have won and all of them are entirely meaningless.
I cannot believe that I am alone in this. Do you remember your awards? Where are all the bits of award stored? Who cares?
Such is the ephemeral nature of these things that they seem the most important thing in the world if you or your company win them. But no sooner have you got to the past the envious congratulations – you are back to the grind.
I will not touch on the amount of money that is spent in pursuit of these baubles. The obvious cost is the thousands paid for a table at the awards ceremony;but I am sure its at least as much again in loss of productivity.
I won something, somewhere for doing something and if anyone can remember it- I’d be glad to hear from you!
