Accord to Facebook , I won something 8 years ago. I have no ideas what I won or where this trophy is. OK some bits of my brain are lost when it haemorrhaged but my flat in London is full of awards I or my companies have won and all of them are entirely meaningless.
I cannot believe that I am alone in this. Do you remember your awards? Where are all the bits of award stored? Who cares?
Such is the ephemeral nature of these things that they seem the most important thing in the world if you or your company win them. But no sooner have you got to the past the envious congratulations – you are back to the grind.
I will not touch on the amount of money that is spent in pursuit of these baubles. The obvious cost is the thousands paid for a table at the awards ceremony;but I am sure its at least as much again in loss of productivity.
I won something, somewhere for doing something and if anyone can remember it- I’d be glad to hear from you!
Henry, these awards cut both ways. Yes, they give recognition to the recipient for something they do well. But they also add credibility to the organiser and the sponsor by attaching the recipient’s name to theirs and shaking hands and smiling with them in the photo. You should only accept
awards from organisations whose values you agree with and respect.
AI informs “us” Henry Tapper did not win an individual award at the Money Marketing Awards in 2018. However, he was chosen to collect the Outstanding Contribution Award on behalf of his colleague, adviser Al Rush, and Al Rush’s financial advice firm, Chive, which won the actual prize that evening. The 2018 ceremony took place on June 21, 2018, and the award was sponsored by Royal London.
