Pensions in Peterborough
Peterborough is a place that holds much that is good, Retirement Line is a firm as good as any in financial serves, Nest have their UK administration just out of town and my old friends at First Actuarial round the corner from Nest. Aegon’s workplace administration is in town.
What else was in town over the weekend was a man who had lost his mind and who took to madness in his behaviour and Peterborough’s shame is that he was not stopped from stabbing and brandishing his weapon either in Peterborough or on the train.
I sense that Mark Ormston, even before the full extent of the madman’s behaviour became clear, was worried for his town, He posted this (including an early statement from the police).
There were heroes on the train but there was nothing done in Peterborough where the madman (and coincidentally the train guard – so injured by him) came from.

At about 19:10 on Friday, a 14-year-old was stabbed by a man with a knife in Peterborough city centre. Police said the victim was treated at Peterborough City Hospital for minor injuries and later discharged.
Cambridgeshire Police said:
“The offender had left the scene when the call was made and despite a search of the area by officers and a police dog, the offender was not identified.”
A man was left with facial injuries following the attack at about 00:45 (Saturday morning) at a station in Silvertown. Cambridgeshire Police said in all three incidents a “crime was raised” and investigations launched.
But this isn’t good for the people of Peterborough, for Mark Ormston who has taken responsibility as a Councillor for the town.
My thoughts are for Mark and for all the good people in Peterborough who want Peterborough to be a good place and who must now be frightened of what has emanated from their City.
I spent a day with the Pension Geeks (and the then Pension minister) in 2019, talking to people who lived and visited Peterborough and this was where I first met Mark Ormston. We were talking pensions out of a bus, it was a joyous day and to a large extent I think of Peterborough as a pensions town.

I hope that Peterborough does not think badly of itself because of a mad vagrant . I hope it pulls together with a sense of pride for what it is and should be – a pensions town.
