What’s gone on at Pensions Expert?

For the past few years I have become increasingly fond of the pioneering and informed form of pensions journalism I’ve been reading in Pensions Expert. If I go to the Pensions Expert website I can still see the journalistic team that has made reading the digital magazine so useful.

But Pension Expert’s “about us” page fails to inform us that Ben and Alex are no longer at the publication and now we hear that its editor, the indomitable Maria Espadinha is off to become a policy wonk at the PLSA

This leaves a big hole and a chance for other trade papers to step up to the plate.

My personal thanks to Maria , who has had a rotten Covid and who has come out the other side with all guns blazing. She built a great team and that team will needs be rebuilt. The FT is a strong enough organisation to replace all three but it is rare to think of such a strong suite (think Danny Baker, Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill at the NME is 1977-8).

All things change and it’s good that they do, but there’s a bit of the Big Yellow Taxi about this blog

“You don’t ever know what you’ve lost till it’s gone

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot!”

Let’s make sure we can enjoy the FT’s Pension Expert in months to come and it doesn’t become the Financial Times’ unused parking lot!

I agree with you 100% and I hope Pension Expert gets its mojo back real soon. I note that the frequency has been downgraded to a few times a week (versus daily) and it has little to say…
