Two gongs for underdogs ; praise for those who do solid work – not marketing!

Amidst the stories of winners of fantastic awards dreamed up to sell tables at fantastic award ceremonies, I’d like to point to a couple of Steve Goddard’s companies which in their quiet way, have done good things.

The first gong for an underdog!

The first is for Goddard Perry Actuarial LLP  (GPAS). We work a lot with their Chris Bunford, a fighting force for progress. He told me he was going to Professional Pensions award ceremony to reward some of the people who make his business work.

I have to say , when Chris told me about it and I looked at the shortlist I thought he would not get so much as a smile from the judges. Here is the list

I was wrong. Here’s to Chris, David Pettitt and the  young actuaries who work with them

Well done GPA and well done the judges! They aren’t a super fancy firm – they have not published self-congratulatory posts!

If you want to see the big firms, go on Linked in at the moment and gasp in awe (you will have to read this blog to get applause for GPAS)!

The second gong for the underdogs!

My second gong is for HS Trustees, an unfancied firm of professional trustees who cannot compete for marketing with their private equity backers.

Here is a sensible post from Catherine Howarth, the doyenne of governance.
