What’s an offsite? – What an offsite!

I may change the title to “what an offsite!” over the day but until this week I had never been on an offsite strategy day, unless you count those shonky sales conferences you used to go on because you’d “smashed your target”. So I’m writing this for you, in case you ever get the chance to spend a few days in a charming and unspoiled language quite unlike the commercialised ski resorts of Switzerland, France, Austria and Ita

I had no idea where we were going – somewhere in Switzerland by the look of the air tickets. Infact we ended up 2007m in the air in the Grand Hotel and Kurhaus of Arolla, a little hameau of 56 souls high in the Val D’Herens.

I would love to discuss what we decided yesterday. I think it will be important not just to the gestating Global Pension Corporation but to many people whose retirements will be the better for the Pension SuperHaven and the surrounding products that we will bring to market over the next few months.

But I thought to write a few words to thank our hosts , Edi Truell and Cedriane de Boucard for their hospitality and company and explain a little about their mountain hideaway. If you are planning an “offsite”, I suggest you make the effort and travel to this place. Alternatively if you like hiking, ski-ing and enjoying life without devices, this is the place for you. Of course I have my devices, which is why I am able to write this in situ. But let me paint an alternative scene!

Fed up with steep taxes and flat slopes, come to steep slopes and low taxes.

Our hosts took the advice and ended up in one of the lovelies places I have ever visited (let alone stayed in)

Imagine you are working out the ground rules and the strategy for your enterprise. You choose to be inspired by the most inspirational backdrop in Europe

You chose as your companions , people you like, respect – people you can yomp with.

You have as your host a woman who is a financier, championship ski-er and hotelier!

Throw in an exhilerating off-piste safari

to a remote farm with its own cricket pitch

and polish off with the finest of meals at the unspoiled village of Lannaz

I am very privilidged to have spent this time out of the office and though we did our fair bit of intellectual work, this was mentally and physically a deep-breather. I hope it made some friendships that will last even longer than our forthcoming adventure!
