Yeovil Town Football Club have now lost four times to non-league opposition since joining the Football League in 2003.
Last night’s debacle, following our final minutes capitulation in Fleetwood is eased only by my being in York and spending today in Leeds. It should be remembered that both York Town and Leeds United have seen better days. Nonetheless, it is hard supporting a minnow, touted as a “giant” savaged by the Cod Army.
It is no easier that close neighbours Salisbury defeated the Haddock army of Grimsby 3-2 on the same night.
Good luck to Fleetwood, they now have a home tie against their neighbours Blackpool which for me at least will be the game to watch in the third round – forget your glory-boy Manchester nonsense. Must have been good on the bus steaming back up north last night,
The ciderspace theat greeted my twitter search this morning on #ytfc suggests the majority of our wonderful supporters dare not put thumb to blackberry so embarrassed are we. In Skivvo we trust, now is not the time lads to jump off that boat.
“Whether we’re up or down”
Match report from the BBC below
Jamie McGuire and Jamie Vardy scored in each half as non-league Fleetwood beat Yeovil to secure an FA Cup third-round tie with Championship side Blackpool.
After a lively start from the hosts, Fleetwood took control and went ahead when Peter Till set up McGuire.
Yeovil’s Bondz N’Gala and the visitors’ Steve McNulty were sent off in separate incidents after the break.
And Fleetwood made the cup tie safe when leading scorer Vardy latched on to Andy Mangan‘s through ball.
The hosts had made a promising start as Steve MacLean went close, while at the other end Mangan put his close-range header over the bar as the Blue Square Bet Premier team soon settled.
McGuire’s second goal of the season gave Fleetwood a half-time lead and Vardy grazed the outside of the post in the second half as they continued to look the better side.
Gavin Williams had a chance to take the game to extra-time but put his header over the bar in the final minute, before Vardy made the game safe in injury time.
Yeovil had a two-goal lead going into the final nine minutes of the original tie 11 days ago.
