I’ve no idea why it’s called the Greta Garbo Budget but we have a so-named discussion because Steve Goddard’s Christened it so.

Was it a success as a budget? There are many who see it as an opportunity lost, some who see it as a stabilisation of a rocking and rolling economy.

Are you worried about April 2009 and losing most of your opportunity to sacrifice salary for pension? Are you thinking that that’s tomorrow’s problem, I’ve got bigger fish to land right now.

How much of what was predicted came true? We have the prediction sheet from last week to refer to . What did we miss? Where was the rabbit?

It seems to me that Mike Bromwich , our veteran economist, got it pretty well bang on.

Sadly, my rant for a growth budget fell on deaf ears. The Government will not be funding growth – I suspect it hopes measures on ISAs and Pensions will spark investment into the UK. Will the private sector (and LGPS) rise to the challenge?

Your chance to have a debate on the budget at 1o.30 am. Sadly we won’t be joined by Greta Garbo though her brooding image will be watching over us!
