Coffee Morning – Bitcoin & Pensions …Really??  CPD included

Type – Online

When – Tuesday 12th August 2025 at 10:30am

You are cordially invited to join us for our next Coffee Morning event where we enter the world of Bitcoin!

We are delighted that Sam Roberts, Director of Investments from Cartwright  Pension Trust , will be discussing all things related to Bitcoin and “institutional” investment.

He will be joined by Josh Spence, Senior Adviser at GPC who will give the “retail” point of view.

So what is Bitcoin’s role within corporate pension schemes, and could it eventually replace pensions?

The argument

For many years, bitcoin has been treated as a speculative asset unsuitable for institutional investors. However, we are at an inflection point.

The strength of the bitcoin network, the rise of geopolitical risks, the threat of inflation and counterparty failures, the recognition that bitcoin is categorically different to other digital assets, the realisation that bitcoin is the most ESG-friendly asset available, and the greater institutional appetite for assets that offer true diversification, has led to significant developments to allow institutions to invest in bitcoin securely and safely.

Price volatility will remain for the foreseeable future, but the chances are high that bitcoin will become a major strategic reserve asset in decades to come for governments, pension trusts, charities, and companies.

Institutional investors with long time horizons should be curious. A small but growing number of retail investors are already curious and investing.

Steve Goddard is curious…

“Bitcoin…. really?” we will ask Sam & Josh:

Should Trustees invest as “prudent investors” into Bitcoin?

“Is it a sustainable concept for the future?”

“It it goes wrong …..who will pay?”

“Will Bitcoins buy pensions? Bitcoin annuities?”

“TPR’s guidance?”

“For Sipps how popular is Bitcoin now?”

“Any retail protection?”

“FCA’s view?”

“Next mis-selling scandal?”
