In its ” Hyperscale Build Race” – can AI benefit from clean energy?

I am worried that the hyperscale build race will by-pass clean energy. What is the “hyperscale”. Ironically AI tells me!

The hyperscale market refers to the global ecosystem of extremely large-scale data centers and the cloud services they provide, built to offer immense and flexible computing power on demand. This market is dominated by major tech companies like Amazon Web ServicesMicrosoft Azure, and Google Cloud and includes the infrastructure, components, and services required for these data centers to operate. It is a critical component of modern cloud computing, supporting big data, AI, and other large-scale applications.

Nuveen Infrastructure spoke yesterday about harnessing renewable energy to offer data centres the power needed to operate without detriment to the climate.

Later in the day Oli Payne of Ford explained how he was putting AI to work providing motor workers with the information they needed to make decisions on their pension.

But the articles that I read from America about the hyperscale build up do not talk of the impact that AI and the data centres it needs will create.

It is responsible for pension schemes to consider the investment that is needed in data centres no just in terms of what it can do for the kind of work that Oli demonstrated. I hope that it can invest through organisations like nuveen infrastructure in the means to have AI and a planet worth its intelligence.
