How to spend time and budget promoting yourselves and budgets

One of the wonders of a tube strike is that you can spend large amounts of your day walking across the City and West End of London from meeting to meeting without distraction.

Yesterday I was able to get from Waterloo Station to Queen Street listening to most of Asset TV’s Pension Forum which gave an opportunity for three women to give us their views on what we’re likely to get in the years to come. Unfortunately I was forced to take cover towards the end as we were met with a deluge from the heavens and missed the last 15 minutes.

I had had a look at Asset TV’s output and was rather surprised that yesterday’s event featured three ladies, the history seemed to be very male and (dare I say it) lacking in diversity!

Here was the invitation

DC Retirement Guidance – Targeted Support

Join leading experts from TPT Retirement Solutions, Hymans Robertson and ZEDRA Governance as they explore what’s next for DC pensions, from retirement guidance and targeted support to how trustee boards and advisers can help members achieve better outcomes.

Featuring:

Georgie Edwards, DC Proposition Associate Director, TPT Retirement Solutions
Alison Leslie, Partner and Head of DC Investment Services, Hymans Robertson
Kim Nash, Managing Director, ZEDRA Governance

And what we got was full of sense. Kim is well known to those who follow trust and IGC boards (especially those of Fidelity) , Alison has the eyes and ears of consultants while Georgie is representing TPT . I am doing some research into TPT for one of the employers in its master trust. The brief was “tell me should I stay with TPT”, so good for TPT for telling me “why!”.

The revelation of a pension! A female perspective and a good one!

The conversation was about the target of the saving not the practice of saving. The target for savers is an income for life and of course this is a pension. There was a lot of diversity about whether people should choose how to get a pension with some emphasis in engagement on what people would need by way of security of income and flexibility to withdraw capital.

There was a conversation about how to ensure the money didn’t run out and speculation that people might think differently later in their lives than they did when at retirement. There is still much thinking to do about whether retirement is a change of life or just a change of how you get paid and that conversation has a long way to run.

I think we heard the story with a different perspective, it coming from three sensible women. My opinion of their organisations improved as a result of the session and if my feedback is of value commercially, I hope it will be taken as positive – this is the kind of event we need more of- thankyou!

A sensible way to spend our time

Thanks to Asset TV, I hope that the session will be available to me so I can find out what happened at the end and I hope embed some of it in a future blog. Thanks to the RMT for improving my fitness and thanks to God for bringing us some much needed rain.

If this is the future of advertising wares, I am for it.
