I have never encountered a lifeboat in Croydon and Brighton has always seemed too much fun to need watchdogs, but I’m delighted to see that the PPF and TPR have had their football teams dubbed so by the Professional Pensions officials

The teams played out a “closely fought” 5-3 goal fest somewhere south of London. £500 was raised to counter knife-crime – a very serious problem and a great charity “knives not lives”.
Aficionados of Southern football will know that Croydon are adjacent to the Eagles at Crystal Palace while the Seagulls of Brighton are flying high in the Prem (though sadly booted out of Europe – aren’t we all). These two teams aren’t always on the best of terms though over rivalries are even stronger. The FCA’s Stratford offices are a stone’s throw from West Ham’s new London stadium while the nearest club to the PRA is Arsenal.
A couple of curiosities
- I’m pleased to see (below) the PPF featuring a mixed-sex side. I am aware of one former PE instructor who is a senior woman at TPR – if there is to be a replay at Croydon, let’s hope she gets a run-out!
2.The match (I understand) was played at Brighton’s Withdean stadium, formerly home to Brighton and Hove Albion. I have spent two wet and cold afternoons on its away terraces watching Yeovil Town. Sadly, who this afternoon are away to Slough, do not have a local regulator.

It does seem that the South East has an exclusivity. Could any of our regulators find themselves relocated to Manchester, Liverpool , Leeds or Newcastle and become part of the Northern Powerhouse? I won’t go down that rabbit-hole any further!
If we were to rank our Regulators on their proximity to Premier League clubs, the PRA would be top of the league (and having a laugh). PPF’s Palace are languishing while the FCA’s West Ham and TPR’s Brighton are slugging it out fighting for that last place in Europe.

It would be good to see the PRA and FCA enter into a mini-league with the Lifeboats and Watchdogs. Answers in comments please, about what you’d want their teams called.
