I had a rare chance to watch a Yeovil home game. As I walked to Huish Park I talked with a fellow Glover from Sherborne, I am sorry that home games for me start at Maidenhead and continue at Borehamwood, Woking and Wealdstone. My companion explained that we are shaping up a mid-table site. I would – a day later – agree.
We are under ownership of a Dubai family office but we have the same manager. We don’t have much continuity in our team and it showed in the first half where frankly we were all over the place. The Thatcher’s End found it hard to rustle up much encouragement as we were outplayed by the “Monkey Hangers” in the first half. We had some stout defence but not much capacity to hold the ball , our passing was shoddy and little coming from our keeper Jed Ward led to anything, some of the balls could have resulted in Hartlepool goals.
If we had known what we know now, we would have some celebrity chants. This from the BBC sports site.
Jeff Stelling was in attendance but Hartlepool could not provide their former president with a win after a 0-0 draw at Yeovil.
Stelling sat in the stands with 198 other hardy away fans after a fall-out with club chairman Raj Singh, who had bizarrely asked for the TV and radio presenter to be banned from away boardrooms.
The closest his beloved club came to scoring was a header from Alex Reid which flew wide.
Pools’ new goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright helped preserve a point with a fine save to deny Finn Cousin-Dawson.
Yeovil played much better in the second half , especially with some stout defence and the aerial capacity of Aaron Jarvis who was outstanding till replaced late on.
My Yeovil man of the match arrived halfway through the second half – Tahvon Campbell. He looked a better player than when he played for us ten years ago
Yeovil seldom start a season well and our history against Hartlepool is dismal with only two points from the our six matches this decade.
It was great to make a home again (thanks to access to a car for the first time for a bit). I am no longer a drinker and it was a delight to spend time drinking with the prospect of driving back to Shaftesbury. The train ride back to London was made in the company of some Exeter fans on their way back to Eastleigh. What a pair of hearty fans they were!
I hope that the season works out well for Yeovil, the town needs the club to do well and the club seemed to be happier than it has been recently. New and more stable ownership should be good for the club and the town.
