Hamlet and Piglet in conversation

The Oldie have asked for a 16 line poem that captures a conversation between Hamlet and Piglet

hamlet

Piglet

Each of us is, right now, too young to die.

Between us mind, we’d make a great pork pie.

The “let” in both our names suggests we’re youth

And is, with me at least , close to the truth

“To be or not to be” may be your question

But may I make a tentative suggestion?

Whether t’is nobler in the mind to suffer-

I don’t know, But you seem a nice old buffer,

And animals like me need your affection

So I would value your princely protection.

We piglets lack the safety of a zoo

All that I have is a reluctant pooh,

I like him- I admire him- as you do

But do I have to stick to him like glue?

Hamlet

This conversation, Piglet, leaves me weary

“To be or not to be, that’s still the question.
